If you only remember one thing: buy a 75% unless you have a reason not to.
A 75% keyboard keeps the function row (F1–F12) and the arrow keys, and drops the number pad. That is the layout most people actually want on a desk that also has a mouse.
This guide is a shortlist, not a catalog. Four boards, four jobs. We have not typed a month on every unit here — the picks come from specs, the current Keychron / EPOMAKER catalogs, and what buyers keep arguing about.
Who this is for
- You still hit F5, F12, Delete, or Home without thinking.
- You want one keyboard for work and games.
- You do not want to learn layers on a 60% or 65%.
Skip 75% if you live in Excel (get a 96% or full size) or you already know you only want WASD and layers (65% is smaller and usually cheaper).
The four picks
| Best for | Switch type | Get it if | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keychron Q1 HE | One board you keep | Magnetic (Hall Effect) | You want aluminum, QMK, and rapid trigger |
| Keychron K2 HE | Everyday Hall Effect | Magnetic | Same idea as the Q1, lighter case |
| EPOMAKER HE75 V2 TMR | Compact magnetic gaming | TMR magnetic | You want adjustable actuation in a 75% layout |
| EA75 Max | First 75% | Normal mechanical | Budget gasket board, no rapid trigger needed |
Hall Effect / magnetic / TMR: the key uses a magnet and a sensor instead of two metal contacts. Software can change how far you press before the key fires. Rapid trigger resets the key the moment you start to lift. That is the FPS selling point. It does not make you a better player by itself.
Keychron Q1 HE — best overall if you will keep it

The Q1 HE is a 75% with an aluminum case, a gasket mount (the plate floats on gaskets instead of being screwed rigidly to the case), a knob, and Keychron’s magnetic switches. QMK firmware means you can remap keys properly, including on Mac.
Buy this if you want one keyboard for the next few years: typing during the day, rapid trigger at night, and a case that does not feel like a toy.
Skip it if you want the magnetic part without the aluminum case. The K2 HE does that. The extra here is metal, mounting, and the “this stays on the desk” feeling.
Keychron K2 HE — everyday magnetic 75%

The K2 HE combines a 75% layout, wireless connectivity (2.4 GHz + Bluetooth + cable), magnetic switches and rapid trigger. It suits someone who wants adjustable actuation without assembling a custom kit. Check the product page for the case materials and trim of the selected edition.
Buy this if you play Valorant / CS2 and also type emails, and you already like Keychron’s app.
Skip it if you care about a heavy aluminum case — that is the Q1 HE. Or if you do not care about rapid trigger at all — then the K2 Max is the calmer mechanical buy.
EPOMAKER HE75 V2 TMR — a 75% with TMR sensors

The HE75 V2 TMR uses a different magnetic sensor technology from Hall Effect. Both approaches can support adjustable actuation and rapid trigger; sensor type alone does not establish which keyboard performs better. Compare the exact configuration and current price with the K2 HE and Q1 HE.
Buy this if you want a magnetic 75% and the switch options, software and current price meet your needs.
Skip it if you want QMK / VIA and a brand with a longer Mac-keyboard reputation. That is still Keychron.
The catch: EPOMAKER names move fast (HE75, HE75 Mag, HE75 V2 TMR). Confirm the listing says V2 TMR before you buy an older magnetic 75% by accident.
EPOMAKER x AULA EA75 Max — first 75%

This is the Aula-style gasket 75% sold inside the EPOMAKER store: pre-lubed feel, knob, tri-mode wireless, hot-swap on most versions. It is the “friend’s first mechanical keyboard” pick. No magnetic switches. No rapid trigger.
Buy this if you want a 75% that sounds better than a basic office board, and you might swap keycaps later.
Skip it if you already know you want rapid trigger. Do not “start here and upgrade in two weeks” — go K2 HE or HE75 V2.
How to choose in thirty seconds
- Need rapid trigger and a keepable aluminum case → Q1 HE
- Need rapid trigger on Keychron, everyday board → K2 HE
- Want a 75% with TMR magnetic sensors → HE75 V2 TMR
- First mechanical 75% → EA75 Max
- Number pad is non-negotiable → see the TH99 Pro in our budget keyboard guide
Wireless: use the 2.4 GHz dongle for games, Bluetooth for a laptop, keep a cable anyway. Polling-rate marketing (8K) matters less than a working dongle and a layout you will not fight.
